Creating A Happy Office: An Interview with Our Office Manager Imogen

July 1st, 2022

This week, we’re excited to launch a brand new interview series. Giving you an insight into our wonderful Experiencegift team, we kick off our first interview with our Office Manager Imogen Clark. Read ahead, as she gives us a glimpse into creating a happy office!

Hi Imogen! Thanks for chatting with us. Could you please introduce yourself to our readers?
Hello there! I’m originally from London, but I have been living in The Netherlands for the last 8 years.  I’ve worked at Experiencegift for the last 2.5 years in a few different roles and it’s so nice to see how the company has grown since I started. Oh and I officially turn 30 today and I’m loving it!

How did you come across the role of Office Manager at Experiencegift?
I first started out with Customer Success and some office management tasks alongside this. After some time of learning new skills, I realised that I wanted to progress and find a new challenge in the company. I found myself making improvements to the organisation of the office while trying to maintain a positive company culture to make sure everyone loves the place they work. The office manager role felt like the perfect fit for me.

At Experiencegift, we work with a hybrid model. How do you foster company culture in a hybrid workplace?
I try to find a balance between being able to support our team when they work at home (answering any questions, helping with orders or new tech) and also creating a friendly and welcoming environment in the office. I would like everyone to feel comfortable and like they can do their best work, so if I can help in any way to make that happen, I’m happy to do it!

As we’re growing quickly, things can get quite busy around here. How do you keep yourself organized?
Writing so many notes! Planning my days out per task and making sure to set reminders – with notifications! I try to keep my desk tidy too, but that doesn’t always work so well – I seem to collect a lot of random bits and pieces along the way..

When you’re not working, how do you spend your time off?
Cooking for family and friends at home, I love to test out new recipes. Catching up with my closest girlfriends with a glass of wine!

From your experience, what are the top 3 things required to keep people happy at work?
A friendly and welcoming atmosphere, a feeling of trust to share positive and negative moments (feedback is so essential) and always having plenty of snacks in the cupboard to help the team tackle those late-afternoon hungry moments!

If you were to pass on your best advice to someone training for your position, what advice would that be?
Don’t expect to know everything right away, this role has a lot of layers to it! I also think being an Office Manager is really about learning and developing ideas as you go, to best suit the environment you are working in and support your company with any changes they make. Hard work is important, but don’t forget the moments to take a breath when you need to.

What are you most looking forward to over the next few months?
Our company trip to Barcelona that I have helped organise, and my boyfriend’s family visiting my family in London for the first time. A little nervous, but also very excited!

Thank you Imogen, for giving us a peek into your Experiencegift journey!
